Four Sided Blue Bottle Vase with Unglazed Asemic Script
Wheel thrown bottle vase that is decorated in my own Denim Blue glaze.
After decorating and glazing, the vase was fired to 1280'C in my gas kiln.
The reduction atmosphere of the kiln causes the clay to gain a toasted colour which burns through the glaze in places, creating depth and speckles.
The asemic script, or 'writing without meaning' on this piece is inspired by my study of Japanese language, particularly their calligraphic writing system. I enjoy playing with the way in which the paint brush flows to create the impression of text and I wonder what hidden message the pot is trying to convey.
