Tall Blushing Peach and White Script Vase
This vase was thrown on the wheel before the asemic script was painted on by hand.
The vase was then glazed in a blushing peach glaze and fired in a reduction gas kiln, which causes the glaze to blush pinky-red in areas reduced by the flame.
The asemic script, or 'writing without meaning' on this piece is inspired by my study of Japanese language, particularly their calligraphic writing system. I enjoy playing with the way in which the paint brush flows to create the impression of text and I wonder what hidden message the pot is trying to convey.
